Concrete Coatings for Backyard Sheds in Heartland
A backyard shed is the one detached building we found in Heartland. A 2007 home in Tract A, on Times Road, lists a storage shed added in 2024, 8 by 10 feet. The listing never says what that shed stands on. Plenty of sheds have wood floors or sit on blocks or gravel, and those fall outside a concrete coating. So before anything else, Nick wants to know whether a Heartland shed has a concrete pad under it.
If it does, the floor is small: 80 square feet, a fraction of a two-car garage. That raises a fair question about whether a shed is worth a trip by itself. The builder plans we checked in Heartland all show two-car attached garages, and pricing the shed with the garage puts both on one visit and one written quote. From Garland the drive is 27.9 miles by I-635 and I-20; our best-case reading, taken late at night, was about 32 minutes, and daytime runs take longer.
A shed added in 2024 probably sits on young concrete, if concrete it is. New slabs need to cure before a coating will bond, so Nick asks when the pad was poured. The ground matters too. Kaufman County, per the TSHA Handbook, lies in the Blackland Prairie on clayey subsoils, and clay of that kind shifts with rain and drought, so even a young pad gets checked for hairline cracks before anything is quoted.
